Water Supply Project for Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa

Project Objectives :

Primary objective :

a). to introduce innovative methods to improve ground water quality for drinking purpose and support community organizations through the Local Government Authorities to implement and manage the improve community water schemes.

b). to eradicate water prone chronic diseases (kidney, ugly dental staining etc caused by excess thickness and high fluoride contents of contaminated ground water.

 

Secondary objective:

a). to pilot and facilitate rural women societies for distribution potable water during dry season.

b). to provide skill development training to harvest rain water and protect existing natural water sources.

c). to promote local level water conservation and restoration methods.

 

Project Cost                                      : Rs.  400  Mn. (US$3.42)

 

Project Period                                 : 2013 – 2015

 

Financial Provision for 2013 : Rs. 15 Mn
